It’s a unique situation for local IndyCar fans in Indianapolis who won’t be able to make it to the race. While the traditional in-market TV blackout is in place, fans will still be able to stream the race live via a simulcast on Peacock Premium. According to IndyStar, it’s not for lack of trying though. NBC was unable to implement geofencing technology that would make it possible to block a stream of the Indy 500 in such a small area, so coverage will be available nationwide, even in Indianapolis. Coverage will begin at 11 a.m. on NBC, with the green flag set to wave at 12:45 p.m. More than 300,000 fans are expected to be in attendance — the most since the 100th running in 2016. INDIANAPOLIS -- For the fourth time in seven years, Central Indiana race fans can watch the Indianapolis 500 live, but this year, it comes with a catch. Because the race is not expected to sell out -- IMS expects to have roughly 5,000 grandstand seats left, along with the ability to sell several thousand more gate admissions for the infield -- the 500 won't air live on NBC for those living in Central Indiana. The Indy 500 has been blacked out every year except 1949, 1950, 2016, 2020 and 2021. Sunday, though, you can watch the race on NBC's Peacock streaming app for the cost of a first month's subscription to the 'premium' version of the platform. Here's how you can get set up. The 2022 Indy 500 is here, and Helio Castroneves is looking to make history during the biggest day on the racing calendar. Castroneves is currently in a four-way tie with A.J. Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser for the most Indy 500 wins with four. The 47-year-old Brazilian can become the first driver to win "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" five times if he wins on Sunday. Castroneves is starting 27th of the 33 drivers in the field, so he will have to win from the back of the pack. That said, he wasn't expected to contend for the race win last year but ended up taking the checkered flag. Perhaps fortune will be on his side again. Of course, catching the likes of Scott Dixon, Alex Palou, Rinus VeeKay and the other drivers situated near the front of the race won't be easy. Still, Castroneves' pursuit of a fifth Indy 500 victory will be one of the many great stories on display at the race. Here's all the information you need to watch the Indy 500 on Sunday.
