INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be open at full capacity for the Indianapolis 500 for the first time since 2019.

With only 10,000 more grandstand tickets available, this year's race is expected to be the highest Indy 500 attendance in 20 years, besides the sold-out 100th running in 2016. Parking has already sold out.

To say that Scott Dixon has put 32 problems behind him is one way to look at starting from the pole position for the Indianapolis 500. It's a nice position to be in as it means you start in command of the race and clean air in front of you, if you can hold off the other two cars starting on the front row with you.

Following two weeks of testing, practice and qualifying, the Indy 500 returns this weekend as 33 drivers attempt to win the coveted Borg-Warner Trophy and celebrate on the podium with a traditional bottle of milk.

Unsurprisingly, The Iceman is the 4-1 favourite for the 2022 Indianapolis 500.

Ex-F1 driver Romain Grosjean, known for his risky overtakes and crazy spins, will start the 2022 Indy 500 on the third row of the grid as the quickest rookie driver. One to watch, for sure.

Who will win the Borg Warner trophy and a bottle of milk? Tune in this Sunday, just after the Monaco Grand Prix, to find out. Make sure you know how to watch a 2022 Indy 500 live stream from where you are in the world.

The 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 is a big deal, and not just because it’s IndyCar’s biggest race of the year. For the first time since 2019, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be open at full capacity, and fans are expected to turn up in droves for the festivities on Sunday, May 29 (5/29/2022).

Nationwide TV coverage of the 2022 Indy 500 begins at 11:00 a.m. ET on NBC and Universo (Spanish-language), and it can be streamed live on fuboTV, Peacock Premium and other live TV streaming services.

The 2022 Indy 500 start time has been published and the green flag will drop at 12.45pm ET / 5.45pm BST on Sunday. The 'greatest spectacle in racing' will feature a full capacity crowd for the first time since 2019, with more than 300,000 motorsport fans expected to pack into the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 106th Indycar showpiece will take about 3 hours to complete, depending on pitstops, crashes and safety cars. The field will once again be led away by six-time IndyCar champ Scott Dixon who set the record for the fastest pole position speed in the race's history.

Named after the 500 miles that are completed by the field, "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" is the flagship event of the IndyCar series and was first raced in 1911.

Its arena is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- a 2.5 mile long oval that is so large it encloses an 18-hole golf course and has a permanent seating capacity of 257,325 -- the highest-capacity sports venue in the world.

However, the Indy 500 is not just about pure speed. It's an endurance race, with ever-changing strategies and conditions, that tests the drivers and their teams at every chance it can. It is a race where a mistake can be made and you can still somehow end up in Victory Lane, or never recover from and wonder what could have been.

Scott Dixon qualified in pole position -- his average speed of 234.046mph across the four laps was the fastest ever recorded in qualifying.

However, starting in pole does not necessarily guarantee victory. In the last 12 editions, only one driver has held pole all the way to the finish. Dixon himself has started on pole four times previously and only won once in 2008.
